Off to Soccerex

Yesterday I flew from London to a grey and rainy Manchester to attend the 2016 Global Soccerex Convention.  For those who are not into ‘the beautiful game’ let me explain what it’s all about.  All the leading buyers and suppliers in world football have a get together for networking, to see whats new, and generally talk ‘football’ for thee entire days! And what a day it was, with the controversy over Sam Alladyce being all over the newspapers, there was plenty to talk about.

Ballon DorI went along courtesy of Matt Gough who heads up Sir Stanley Matthews Travel and just so happens to be Sir Stans grandson (yes really).   They specialise in managing a multitude of travel possibilities, multi stop itineraries, ever-changing schedules for footballers, fans, teams, club officials and so on.  We are proud to be their chosen partner for providing bespoke private jet and helicopter travel.

Here is a pic of Matt and yours truly, standing beside the original Ballon d’or.  This is the original trophy awarded to Sir Stanley in 1956 when incredibly at the age of 41 (ancient by the standards of today’s footballers) he fought off the challenge of greats Alfredo Di Stefano, Ferenc Puscas and Raymond Kopa to secure the title of Europe’s best player.  The trophy really is something to behold!

What you may not know is that The Sir Stanley Matthews Coaching foundation pledges to help more than 10,000 young people, many underpriveleged or disabled to have access to high class sporting experience in their local schools and sporting clubs.  The Foundation is run entirely by volunteers, the money raised through a series of high profile events and donations.

And the success is there for all to see.  At the Rio Olympics this year, two of the medal winners were prodigies of The Sir Stanley Matthews Coaching foundation.
