How was your weekend?

Ours went by in a whirl of good food, good friends and a lot of fun.

Fort Lauderdale is described as ‘the Venice of America’ and for very good reason.  It has 300-plus miles of navigable inland canals – part of the Intracoastal Waterway stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Everglades. The waterways offer everything from centuries-old mangroves to opulent multi-million-dollar mansions and if you are staying for a while it’s a great way to spend a day.

There are several ways that you can travel the waterways, take your pick from a water taxi, paddle steamer trip or rent a boat.

The water-taxis are moderately priced with lively commentary about the various homes and yachts of the super-wealthy. You can get on and off all day and there is always another taxi to hop on every 30 minutes.  Mr C and I opted to go from Las Olas to Hollywood, just cos the only Hollywood we’ve visited before is the one in Beverley Hills. We lunched at GG’s Waterfront bar and grill (Stone Crabs, Pow Pow Shrimp and Crabcakes) Delicious! Then made our way to Joe’s Tiki Bar and enjoyed a cocktail and some live music.  Great way to spend the day.

Monday was “Presidents Day’ we had an unexpected day off, so we went and rented a boat from Aquatic Adventures on Seabreeze Blvd for the whole day, (yes thats yours truly in the driving seat…Mr C you have nerves of steel).  They gave us a giant ice box for drinks and a map of the waterways and off we went.  I saw plenty of beautiful homes on the water that I would like to buy, and Mr C was making a mental note of all the boats he would like to buy.  It’s was a wonderful sight to see the Pelicans and I would have loved to see a Manatee (some sort of strange sea cow) but we didn’t get that lucky.

Monday night was another dinner (yes, I know, but whats a girl supposed to do?) This time at the Hyatt Pier 66 restaurant on the boardwalk.

We were joined by Geoff Garrity our new MD for the US office and his delightful wife Suzy (thats Geoff at the back and Suzy on the left), and that very loud brash American internet and SEO genius, none other than Mr John Wieber on my left and his lovely lady Julie on my right, (so good to finally meet you Julie), how do you put up with him?  Only kidding John, you know I love you man :)

So we had another great night in Fort Lauderdale, ending it all in the bar with a tall Cosmopolitan (thats cocktail, not man!)
