Where is Siem Reap?
Siem Reap is located in the central region of Cambodia, north of Tonle Sap Lake. Cambodia is just south of Thaïland and north of Malaysia. If you can’t wrap your head around where this is, have a quick look at this map:
The airport (Siem Reap International Airport) is located just on the outskirts of the town, providing easy access to the town centre. It will only take you 10 to 15 minutes to reach the town centre.
What to do in Siem Reap?
The Siem Reap area is very rich in ruins and interesting archaeological remains. Many temples are still standing and are safe to visit, like the 800 years old Bayon Khmer Temple decorated with many stone faces that will leave you speechless or the overgrown Ta Prohm ruins. Overall the Angkor Archaeological Park is an amazing place to visit if you are interested in the local culture. You can also visit the Angkor Centre for Conservation and Biodiversity if you are more interested in animals than ruins. Siem Reap is also the home to a very unusual museum: The Cambodian Landmine Museum. It tells the story of Aki Ra who started the collection and of the aftermath of the war. Much less grim are the day tours that you can take on the Tonle Sap Lake to discover the wildlife and environment. And if you would like some music, just head towards the Kantha Bopha children's hospital on a Saturday night. That’s correct; the Beatocello Concert held there every week is both free and enchanting! And if you are not entertained by the music, just attend a performance by The Cambodian Circus Phare. Their performance has been described as “bliss” “captivating” and “awesome”.

Where to stay in Siem Reap?
Truly magnificent is how one could describe the The Privilege Floor hotel in Siem Reap town centre. The hotel is part of the 5 stars Borei Angkor Resort and Spa and offers services such as free 24 hours private vehicle with chauffeur, free evening cocktails and free airport transfers. Bedrooms are in a traditional Khmer style but still have modern amenities, such as minibar, LED TV, DVD player, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi. The hotel is conveniently placed, 5 minutes away from the pubs and night market and 10 minutes away from Angkor Wat. If you feel the need to relax, you can get a massage, a steam bath or a beauty treatment at the Spa or take a dive in the pool. Catering options include international and Khmer dishes (we recommend Khmer food even if just to try something new) and can be ordered from the Cafe and lounges.
