Where is Buenos Aires?
Buenos Aires, in South America, is located on the east cost of Argentina, facing the Atlantic. If you were to sail east in a straight line from Buenos Aires, you would miss South Africa by a few miles and end up in Australia (That’s how far south it is). Of course, it’s easier to find it with a map so have a look at this one:
Buenos Aires has many airports. The main airport is Ministro Pistarini International Airport. You could even fly from one part of the city to another in a helicopter thanks to the many landing possibilities at the local airports. All of them are very well connected to the city with buses and taxis (although if you want to hop in a taxi, be prepared to give your directions in Spanish).
What to do in Buenos Aires?
The first thing you’ll have to do, if you are flying over there in winter (it will be summer in the southern hemisphere) will be to get used to the heat. You’ll probably want to head to the beach with sun tan lotion and relax for a little while. People in Argentina tend to nap at the hottest hours of the day and have very short nights and doing the same would help you make the most of your stay. If you’re looking for somewhere cooler to visit during the day, you can head to one of the museums, like the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires or the Museo Nacional De Arte Decorativo or even the Museo del Bicentenario. You could also visit the famous Basilica del Santisimo Sacramenton rich in colours and gold. In Argentina, people tend to eat late in the evening, and going out happens even later. To pass the time in the evening, you could head to the Teatro Colon or Teatro Nacional Cervantes to see a play and then take a course on Tango (after all you are in the birthplace of Tango) in one of the many Tango clubs available. Another great tourist attraction is the Fuerza Bruta Bar which is much more than a bar. Performances there are mind blowing and will mess with your senses. It’s a truly unique experience.
