Let’s start with some numbers
Bombardier Aerospace based their improved 75 on the airframe of the popular Learjet models 40 and 45. Taking some time in their preparation the FAA approved the aircraft in mid November in 2014. The Learjet 75 has many tweaks and improvements that have made this light jet so desirable, leading to its ample price tag of around $13 million USD.
The Learjet 75 has a cabin that is 19 feet and 9 inches (6.02 m) in length, 5 feet and 1 inch (1.56 m) in width and has a cabin height of 4 feet 11 inches (1.50m). One of the main differences about the airframe is that the wingspan is slightly shorter on the Lear 75 compared to its predecessor the Lear 45, yet interestingly the wings on both models cover exactly the same space at 311.6 square feet (28.95 meters squared) it’s the shape and winglets that have changed.
Advancing from the Lear 45, the Learjet 75 uses upgraded Honeywell engines leaving the TFE731-20-BR’s and upgrading to the Honeywell TFE731-40BR, meaning we now see a climb from 3,500 lb (15.56 kN) to 3,850 lb (17.1 kN) of thrust per engine. This increase in power and new extended winglets gives the 75 a great combination of power and streamlined comfort in the air.
It’s initial cruise ceiling is 45,000 feet with a maximum operating altitude of 51,000 feet which is better than the cruise of the Lear 45 but just under it’s larger sibling the Lear 85’s service ceiling of 49,000 feet. The Lear 75’s improved frame and thrust means it can take off on slightly smaller runways (depending on the amount of passengers) compared to the 45, in fact Bombardier confirms that it can take off using 600 feet less runway.
Bombardier have always been well known for designing aircraft that offer a great user experience in terms of luxurious comfort and reliability, and the Lear 75 certainly up holds this reputation. The new avionics include the ability to keep the cabin pressure at 'sea level' which reduces the feelings of fatigue and dehydration whilst in the air. The Lear 75 only increases to 8000 feet of pressure when it reaches its maximum flying altitude of 51,000 feet.
The cockpit on the Lear 75 features some amazing technology including a Garmin G5000 Navigation system with three high resolution 14 inch display screens and a state of the art Sythetic Vision System for three dimensional views of the upcoming terrain, accompanied by live inflight detailing. With the Graphical Flight Planning system you are able to set course with a highly detailed map that can give useful information regarding the best route based on fuel consumtption or time, live updates from airports which includes airport restrictions and also the facility to find near by hotels, car rental services and aircraft handling agents for when you land.
