Let’s start with some numbers

The Hawker 800 series was first flown in 1983 and based on the design of the British Aerospace BAe 125 (the Hawker 700). Its maker Hawker Beechcraft (which has changed name several times before finally going bankrupt last year) has delivered more than 650 units in this series! The price for a second hand Hawker 850 XPR is around 14 million dollars.

The length of the jet is 51 feet, its width is 54 feet and its height is 18 feet. The cabin length is 21 feet and it width 6 feet. If you are shorter than 5”9’ then you won’t have trouble standing up in the cabin, any higher and you’ll have to watch your head.

The maximum fuel capacity of the jet is 10000 pounds. Empty the Hawker 850 XPR weighs almost 16000 pounds. Its maximum take-off weight is 28000 pounds. These jets are equipped with 2 Honeywell TFE731-50R engines, which are capable of a maximum of 5000 pounds of thrust each. That’s why the jet has such a great climbing rate (25 minutes to reach 41000 feet).

These jets can land on runways 2,676 feet long after flying for over 6 hours! They can take-off in only 5000 feet. Their maximum range is 2900 nautical miles and they fly at a speed of 448 knots (although they can reach 465 knots when needed).

Technology

The Hawker 850 XPR and its series (from 800 to 900 XP) have cockpits that qualify as glass cockpits because they have several LCD displays. However, some of the gauges are still mechanical. As you can see on the picture below, the dashboard has a very recognizable shape. The engines are more efficient and durable than previous versions. They reduce both the fuel consumption and the carbon emissions.

The new Hawker Winglets reduce the climbing time by 5% and allow the jet to fly faster for the same amount of fuel. They add stability and flexibility at lower speeds. They also add an additional 100 miles to the Hawker 850 XPR’s range! Overall, the improvements of the aircraft reduce its maintenance costs by 32%.

Travelling in a Hawker 800

The Hawker 850 XPR’s cabin has been upgraded. Its interior is ready for business but options can make it even more elegant and ergonomic than the regular package. You may enjoy these changes if you want to work during the flight in an even more productive environment.

The cabin is pressurized, which allows the aircraft to fly at high altitudes while you can feel as comfortable as you would be on land. The entertainment systems (if you plan on relaxing rather than working) include CD and DVD players and many connectivity solutions so that you’re always connected even at 41000 feet!
