The Bombardier Global 6000 is the latest jet of the Global Express series. It used to be called Global XRS. This series of aircraft is both popular and reliable. Let’s start with some numbersThe Global 6000 was first released in 2006 under the name of Global XRS. The name was changed in 2011. The maker, Bombardier, has already sold over 500 jets in the Express series! The Global 6000 is the latest upgrade of the older Global Express from 1996. It’s a long-range aircraft with a price tag of around 50 million dollars.
The length of the jet is 99.5 feet, its width is 94 feet and its height is 25.6 feet. The cabin (not including the cockpit) is 43.3 feet long and 7.9 feet wide. The headroom in the cabin is 6.2 feet, which is enough for most people to stand up straight.
The maximum fuel capacity of the aircraft is 45,050 pounds. The Global 6000 empty weight is just below 50000 pounds. It can, as a maximum, take off as heavy as 99500 pounds. It is equipped with two Rolls-Royce’s BR710A2-20 turbofans which are capable of 14750 pounds of thrust. The Global 6000 has a maximum operational altitude of 51000 feet.
Thanks to its Rolls-Royce engines the Global 6000 can land on runways 2,670 feet long after flying for more than 12 hours. It takes only 6500 feet for the jet to take off, even at maximum take-off weight. Its maximum range is 6000 nautical miles at a speed of 487 knots. Its maximum speed is 504 knots.
Bombardier has equipped its Global 6000 with systems that are more commonly found on commercial jets than private jets but they still remain the most advanced in the industry. They made sure that if any single system fails, it won’t force the jet to divert. The cockpit uses Bombardier’s Vision Flight Deck for better control and comfort as well as aesthetics. It allows pilots to fly the plane in low visibility conditions almost unhindered and to have better situational awareness. They also made sure that their cockpit would be able to handle future upgrades. Normal buttons were not completely removed as we have seen on other jets but their number has been lowered as some functions are now handled by the touch screens.
The refuelling system has been improved, to allow for faster refuelling (15 minutes less than before). Performance has been improved as well; the Global 6000 has a higher cruise speed and a better range than other jets from this series. The cabin has received LED lighting instead of regular light bulbs. LEDs last longer, provide smoother lighting and also emit almost no heat. The cabin also received dividers that allow for independent temperature control from each section.
Travelling in a Bombardier Global 6000
The Global 6000 cabin can be configured to fit your needs. Depending on your choices, you can seat from 8 to 19 passengers. The cabin can also be split into separate sections to allow for more privacy or to change the temperature in one section in particular. For example, it is possible to isolate the stateroom when you want to hold a meeting in the air or just focus harder on your work. The luggage section is accessible at all times and can store up to 195 cubic feet. Windows are larger than average to allow for more natural light to come in and offer a better visibility even from the lavatory. At night, you will enjoy the LED lights instead, with smoother lightings. The cabin pressure system is better than average and will make you feel more comfortable, almost as if you were on the ground. As usual on private jets, whether you plan on working or not, you will be able to enjoy your flight thanks to the internet access and entertainment system.
